Confessions

I can not pinpoint what underlies this need to confess, but its presence is undeniable. I was just thinking about aspects of my life and personality that people might not know about... things I consciously or unconsciously hide or conveniently leave out of conversation; personal habits that I keep to myself. Since I began thinking about it, I've found it to be an interesting exercise, and one I'd recommend you try. (Don't leave me hangin'!) As a sidenote, this is meant to be different from the "quirky things about me" line of thought, thereby making it a bit more dangerous and risky to share... but here goes.

1. Though I see it as ethically wrong, I kill bugs violently and disregard them as created beings. My convenience and gross-out factor win out every time on this one, especially with spiders.

2. I don't remember the last time I washed my living room floor.

3. I watch Judge Judy AND the People's Court (and could give an entire explanation of how these are different from the "low-brow" court shows that air earlier in the day.)

4. I hate being in charge of music selection in mixed groups of people, for fear that I'm being judged for my taste. I think this goes back to being laughed at in second grade for bringing a tape cassette of "Zip-a-dee-doo-da" to gym class for running time when the cool kids were bringing the Dirty Dancing soundtrack. Though both the aversion and the memory have been part of my awareness for years, I've only just connected the two in the past few months.

5. Even though I don't want to and I try not to, I know I make judgments of people I don't know based on the way they look, speak, or present themselves. I can't seem to figure out a way not to do this.

6. Though every political analysis of my views comes up Republican, I think Democrats are cooler and so rarely label myself as anything. Maybe that's not a bad thing.

you forgot #7 so I'll add it to your list:

7. I am cool and people are proud to say they know me.

Totally with you on #1, I woul dnever kill a bunny, but spiders and bats... watch out! Interested to hear more about number 3, b/c to me they are all the same! Don't we all do number 5? It's human nature I think, that doesn't make it right, but it's normal! Let me know if you figure out a way to NOT do it!

And to think, I never would have guessed. I THOUGHT you were perfect! HA HA

No really, your #4 totally surprises me, but I can identify. I think my insecurity about that comes from teaching middle school and I know I don't keep up with their "cool" music, so when they ask me, "Do you like _______ or this song________," then I feel completely OLD and UNCOOL when I know I have never heard of that artist or song. And I said in high school with Debbie Gibson thumping hard that I would NEVER be like my mom and not crank the music or know who was cool!!!!!!!!!!!!! *shaking head*

Oh man, #6 killed me. You just might be the most honest Republican in West Michigan. Maybe deep down, somewhere below Ayn Rand, you're a little Democrat. :)

BTW - because of #3, I'm now making judgements of you. :)
