Cabin Fever

There are those creatures among us (and my mother is one of them) who never suffer from cabin fever. They treasure their time alone in the home, tending to to-do lists and drinking tea, I imagine.

This is not a group of people I belong to.

Is it the little kids? Is it the flat gray light of the cold blowy weather outside every window? Maybe I just like the idea of being able to go out and do something, as, if I'm honest, it's not like I'm super involved in activities when the weather is desirable. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's just that it's February in Michigan, I am days away from my due date and stuck in the house with two quasi-sick bored kids. Yesterday, all of this prompted me to get out the camera, much to Eden's dismay.

"Oh, keep your shirt on," I lovingly encouraged her as I snapped pictures around the house, trying to look at the cold light in a positive way and let it flood the lens, illuminating my subjects: details of my day in the house on a snowy Michigan afternoon.

Judah was somewhat more cooperative, at least not hiding every time I pointed the camera at him.

Hmm. I seem to have lots of pictures of him in these pajamas.

I really do put the kid in clothes from time to time, promise.

This one haunts me. It's like a glimpse at my son at 16... a thought that intrigues me and makes me slightly queasy.

This would be the best shot I got out of Eden, but at least it's an accurate representation of the day. Yes, yes, you caught me: it was a day of regrettable screen time for my impressionable young minds.

Something about Eden looks really old here, too.

But Eden isn't ALWAYS so bent about having her picture taken. You just have to catch her in the right mood. The other night, (and I use that term quite loosely as we put the kids to bed at 6:45pm) Eden got her very first mini pedicure after being fascinated by the brightly colored toenails I came home with that afternoon. (Did you know Eden has her own version of the hot dog face her brother developed?)

She chose the pink, naturally.

And I got this. Little lovey. Ah, I love that I married a brown-eyed man.

Today Derek has his first day off work since last Wednesday, but since schools are canceled and roads are covered in snow, our plans of BSF and minivan hunting may be somewhat altered. No matter: we have nowhere to be and no one to report to, a cupboard full of food and a tub full of molasses cookies.

And, if we get desperate, there's always pink nail polish.

Enjoy your family day! It just might be your last "do nothing" day as a family of FOUR!

Isn't it funny how when the men-folk are working, we get 'cabin feva', but when they have the day off, we're totally content to stay in all day long? What a difference adult companionship makes. (Oh, and the reason Eden looks so old in that picture is because of the way her hands are inside her sleeves, it's the way all the cool kids wear their shirts.)

...you mean you might paint DEREK'S toenails with pink polish????
I think it looks to be a wonderful snowday, and very precious to your family as you approach some big changes.

At the end of the day, you can look at these pics and your blog and agree...not really a bad day. Ya think?
