Loving on my job

I love being around other photographers. In addition to the shared technical knowledge fostering drool-covered conversation about lens glass, image stabilization and aperture, I'm fascinated to get inside the heads of those who seek to create images, and how they do it. What are their objectives? Where does the process start? What kind of post process is used, and why? Inevitably, these discussions lead to a deeper understanding of my own process, and the way my mind works to capture what I see.

Confession: "Setting up the shot" is not one of my strong suits.

There are circumstances where it is required, and so I'm always trying to learn how to be better, but here's where insight into my own creative process comes in: I'd much rather put energy into finding the shot that's already there.

A momma holds her tender newborn. Honestly, what direction does she need from me?

Hang around long enough, I've found, and you'll find that the story is right there. I don't need to add a thing.

As if I could stage this!

Welcome, baby Charlie, and thanks for a fun Saturday morning session. Your proofs will be up soon over at the website!

Great pictures. And you're right, the best shots are the ones that AREN'T set up. It's just LIFE, happening.
