Since graduating from college several years ago, I have relished Septembers more than ever before. When students (and, now common in my peer group, parents of students) are lamenting the advent of another nine months of schedules and syllabi and soccer practices and ugh... the SICKNESSES, I am free to enjoy what is essentially just another summer month. Our favorite summertime haunts clear out just for us, and Derek's funky retail schedule makes for ideal mid-week, mid-day mini trips down to Saugatuck or out to the beach. Today is the first day of school for just about everyone, but Derek and I are taking the kids to the beach.
(As a parent of a 5-month-old and a two and a half-year-old, I don't really know the time tables when it comes to birthdays and when a child starts school. It's possible that this is my last September o' Bliss, but I don't want to think about it, and you can't make me.)
Although structure is not imposed upon our family by school quite yet, we do have a few things going this fall that I'm looking forward to. I learned last night that Eden and I have both been placed in the daytime Bible Study Fellowship class, and I am STOKED! I have been involved in the evening BSF class for a few years, and switched to the day class this year in the hope that Eden could be a part of their preschool program, though it often has a waiting list. I am so excited for her, and I feel so blessed that three of the four of us will be part of the BSF Moses study this year. This is one area where I need - and CRAVE - discipline.
In addition to the beginning of another BSF study, this fall means the butchering of our first cow. That statement is so silly in light of the innumerable pounds of beef we have consumed over the years, but since putting a deposit on a quarter of a grass-fed organic cow last spring, we've come to look at what we eat in such a different way. This will surely be subject for another post sometime soon; for now, we are making space in the chest freezer and anxiously awaiting a call from the butcher in Allendale.

Hope your beach day was phenomenal and YES, enjoy the years before school does rule your schedule!!! Although, I'm not complaining as the 2 boys are at school all day and Sadie is napping so I am relishing some much needed Sarah time!!!!!
If you don't mind, will you please email me the phone # of your connection in Allendale? I would love to get a 1/4 grass-fed cow!!!!!! I don't know who to call. Thanks.
