Counting

I know it's been a long time since I've posted. There are a couple of good reasons for this, and several poor ones. I had a wicked fever this week, and it took me down. Each time I fall ill, I scold myself for taking biological functions for granted... things like breathing through my nose, inhaling without coughing, bending over without snot dripping onto my baby. This fever was an anomaly in that is was all by itself, without any other symptoms, {blessing} and I had only the fever to deal with. Oh wait, a fever plus a five-month-old who nurses five times a day and a two-year-old who needs mommy to acknowledge EVERY WORD SHE SAYS. Twice. Since the fever broke sometime during the night Friday, {blessing} I have been splitting my time between BSF, {blessing} taking care of my son {blessing} and my daughter, {blessing} going to church with my family, {blessing} and catching up with the household {blessing} chores that came to a grinding halt when I hit the couch. A new week is beginning, {blessing} and I am ready for it.

I remind myself of God's blessings in my life often, as this is what is often in the foreground:

Like the progression? Yeah. Charming. If only I had a sound file to play in the background. Eden seems to seek conflict these days, asking repeatedly for anything she knows she can not have.

To be honest, I don't even have the mental energy to write about it. Let that say what it will. However, with the turbulence of her two-year-old demeanor has come astounding development in speaking and physical skill. I enrolled her in the preschool program at BSF, and after two classes (with her dear friend Abby :) my TWO year old is telling me about baby Mo-is in a basket crying and being found by a princess. {BLESSING}

I'm praying a lot for perspective when I'm in the thick of it.

Judah is roly-poly as ever, and has been introduced to his very first new food in rice cereal. No big surprise here: he digs it.

And ope! No big surprise here either: it's a messy endeavor. He likes to arch his back in the Bumbo seat where he is training for the highchair. He likes to really experience this mushy new source of nutrience (and fun!) with tongue, lips, gums, fingers, toes, shoulders, and any other body part he can maneuver closely enough to his little pink mouth. (This is easier than tantrums, and it never occurs to me to consider it a complaint. I could use a few more baby bibs, though.) At nearly six months, Judah wants to grab about anything his sticky grippers can reach, and anything in his paw follows a crooked, shaky path to his mouth. Eden sort of skipped this stage (weird, I know) so we're kind of fascinated by it. Kiddo is motivated to move, too. I swear he thinks he really could walk if only he tries hard enough. And when he does.... oh crap! There goes the blog.

Both of the kids are sleeping now, quiet, breathing warm, fingering blankies, dreaming big little dreams. My husband is trying to stay awake on the couch so we can go upstairs together, and tomorrow begins a new week.

Happy to see a new blog...perfect meltdown sequence of Eden...no need for sound, as I've heard it so many times myself (and Elizabeth is entering this dramatic phase now). It is always wonderful to count one's blessings...and far too easy to forget!

The best is that you were taking PICTURES during the breakdown. (Which I'm sure did NOTHING to appease miss Eden! Wouldn't that piss YOU off?) Glad you're 'back'. (Oh, and I can probably rustle up some baby bibs for you, as Ellis is in the stage of REFUSING THE WEAR ONE.)

So when Megan was doing my hair last week I commented on how much I enjoy your blog and she said I should let you know! You're a GREAT writer and I love all the mommy blogging...my favorite part about this one? The picture sequence of a tantrum and the spot on wording of how toddlers SEEK conflict. Amazing how little ones can get their mother's number so easily...Aidan sure has mine!

I'm with Megan. Eden looks like Britney getting paparazzied while on a drinking binge. I can just hear little Eden - "Mom, I swear, if you put these on the Blog I'm gonna lose it even worse next time."

Has she learned the word "blog" yet by the way?

I was just about to facebook you and beg for another post. Love it.
