Heading up North/ Passing it Down

Judah is singing in the window seat to a seven o'clock sky, kicking little fat legs and thereby pushing himself with sticky baby feet toward the pane. Today we leave for Port Austin, and there are only a handful of loose ends to tie up before we embark on our annual sojourn to the tip of the thumb.

I can not wait to pull into the gravely drive, stretch my back from a four-hour drive and breathe the lake and the trees and the cottage. I have been coming to this cottage the whole of my life on this earth, and though it has seen many changes, its essence remains untouched, as if there were an animate soul within the walls and floors themselves. In 6 hours or so, I hope to be there.

This is my 29th summer visiting the cottage. It is Judah's very first.

A portrait of part of the cottage's spirit: the summer before we said goodbye to Papa.

I'm about to cry. Can't wait to see y'alls up there! I, too, share in the sentimentality of sharing the cottage with Ellis for the first time this year. We are so blessed.

oh how nice a vacation sounds about now. Have a great time, hopefully it's relaxing! (is that possible with two little ones?) I feel they're always better with others around to entertain them :)
