Play For Today

(Anyone catch the title reference? Golf claps if you do.)

This is Selah. Selah is my teeny tiny little baby who has grown out of the size 1-2 diapers that we continue to put her in despite the inevitable problems one encounters when they insist upon putting a baby in diapers a size too small.

I want to just bite her cheeks all the time. Judah has taken quite a liking to his little sister as well, and thankfully is not showing it the way his mother would. We'd anticipated a bit more static from Judah as he was displaced as the baby in the family, but have encountered none of the negativity we expected. In fact, when Selah fusses, Judah is the first on the scene trying to comfort her, coming to us with furrowed brow if his attempts to quiet her fail. Not having grown up with older brothers, I am interested to watch their relationship develop, and I will be devastated when he learns to pronounce her name and no longer calls her "NehNeh."

I never get tired of noting the similarities and differences in my children, and conjecturing where or whom these character traits come from. Though obviously quite different, Eden and Judah are both builders and planners, and like things just so. This can make for LOTS of squabbles, but when they work together, they have a good time. This collaborated "soup" was completely their idea.

There's something delicate and tender about the precision with which Judah places his dandelion in the cauldron, like a blossom at a burial mound.

Eden likes her "set-ups" as well. Though she feigns resistance of rest time every day, she really does play well by herself... when forced.

After I snapped the picture, she lifted her little butt to expose a pile of clothes and said, "My underpants are all under here!"

And check it out! Look who's no longer hiding from the camera!

We did have Tulip Time last week, but as much as I adore this time of year in our town, I did not get downtown much or take any photos of costumed dutch kids. I figure there are many years ahead of me to scramble to alter costumes, interrupt naps for parades, fight the traffic for dancing and all the other activities around Tulip Time that my kids will one day know about and want to participate in. (No Kinderplaats for us this year, and I feel I'm a better mom for it.) Our days have a slower cadence; more mundane, perhaps, but comfortable. While I can, I'll let the babe sleep.

And now my need for new photos and observations of some of my most favorite little people has been satisfied. For now. ;) Thanks!

What a great "taste" of a day around your house. I love the way you craft your photo captioning.
We must smooch these littlest ones while they'll allow it.
