Display of the flotsam in my mental pocket

Summer is spinning, whirring, whizzing by, and I'm trying to gulp it down and hoard away the sun for February and Michigan gray. I'm addicted to watching the Olympics on tv, but it's pretty late for me and it cuts into computer time. Sorry, Blogger. Life is calling. To touch on a few items:

Judah Justin is 4 months old, and we'd forgotten what a great age this is. He smiles with approximately 1.5 dimples. He coos with a husky mourning dove voice. He stays where he's put, and his objections are somewhat reasonable and easily rectified. I'm beginning to know what it is that makes a momma's relationship with her son different from any other relationship, and I am growing from it. Judah is big and healthy and happy and kissed mercilessly.

It took me the better part of a week and a half to finish editing photos from Port Austin. I started with over 600, and eventually whittled it down to 338, then 79. Here, 4.

Another spectacular display on Saginaw Bay

And this... this is a point of such great pride and satisfaction and accomplishment for me, that I am compelled to share it without regard for any shy or squeamish viewers. Let me be perfectly clear: THIS CAME FROM MY BOOBS. And I store it next to the popsicles.

Farmer's Market. Yum. Mie.

I do these drawings on the side:

I've been working on one this week for a dear sweet friend, and each time I come back to my roots... that is, drawing... I rediscover how much I like honing these skills, (repeated random scribbly becoming foliage, a straight line in freehand requiring a held breath, developing contrast and texture with hatchmarks and penstrokes, striking the balance between technical accuracy and artistic hand) developed over so very many years. And as happy as I am with my decisions and life and family, there's a little part of me that wants to send these to a few college professors to say, "See! I'm doing art, too! And making money at it! WITH two kids and a husband and a cape cod, and without offending anyone!"

Once I'm done with the drawing, I hope to spend some time organizing the basement and deep cleaning my house, but I'll try to get some more ideas down here as well.

(Oh yeah, and I'm trying my hand at a little pro bono book editing. Why not, right?)

I must say, I am in such awe of the boobie bomb organization. But the time I get the milkers off I am happy to just toss it hapharzard into the freezer. Your display is something to be admired!

I'm so jealous of your milk stash. All 356 ounces of mine were depleted in my dash across Asia. I'm slowly restocking.

Love the pictures. Love the drawings. I'd love to see more of your posted handiwork.

My first reaction was to be jealous of your milk supply....then I realized, since I'm planning on having Ellis weaned by 1 year, I've got to get cracking USING UP my supply, to make sure all my hard-pumping ways don't go to waste. Pretty funny that out of your entire post, so far all the comments are centered around the breast milk. These are the days of our lives....

Well...as impressed as I am with the lovely array of breast milk in your freezer...I must say again how blown away I am by your amazing artistry: your photography, your drawing, your writing...all accomplished while lovingly tending to your sweet little family with humor and grace. I am proud to be part of the gene pool!

Those pics from Port Austin are gorgeous! That sky... what more can I say! And that array of milk, WOW! Good for you, it was all I could do to feed my baby, much less pump!

I love reading your blog...your photos are always gorgeous, and your words read like a good book you just can't put down. I'm so impressed with your drawings, and your creativity in general! I might have to commission you to do some drawings...I'll be in touch on that. I only hope I can juggle my own creative work with children as well as you do some day.

Your drawings are phenomenal! I was impressed also at how neatly you have frozen your milk! Mine was haphazard all over the freezer and sadly, I never used a one. I threw away liquid gold with each child b/c I had pumped so much. Ugh! Judah Justin is a cutie!

I almost didn't approve your blog comment re: Terri because it's probably a little sketchy. But I laughed so hard, I had to.
