As We Speak

I vaguely remember composing entries, little essays about my day, the babies' idiosyncrasies, high falutin' diatribes on right and wrong eating habits.

Occasionally, in the shower or while driving to a shoot in a quiet car, I catch glimpses of the sorts of things that would once motivate me to expound upon them in writing. This, however, involves stringing words together, forming sentences, and, above all, having a half hour of uninterrupted silence to contemplate and construct. I take that back: I could find the time, it's the desire to
fill that time with STRUCTURED LANGUAGE that I lack.

Have you met Eden?

Eden likes to talk. She's a talker. Everything she sees, everything she thinks, everything someone ELSE says or does or says warrants a conversation. A discussion. A debate. A negotiation. A dissertation. And while I spent many months shaking my head and saying things like, "Yeah, we're in the chatty phase," I've come to the realization that THIS IS NO PHASE. Eden wants to talk. To me. ALL DAY.

It's a good thing I like her.

Ahh, yes, I used to claim Ryleigh was "going through a talking phase." Here we are 6+ years later and the phase is still going strong.

Not to sound old or anything, but we need to realize that our kids will get to the age where we'd KILL to have them talk to us about their every thought. We can dream, can't we?:)

I'm with Megan. There has to be talking seasons, right? I'm DYING to hear Stella bella say one damn word right now. But I know soon I'll be wondering when she'll shut up and then later in life I'll be begging for her to open up.

Oh no. Don't be fooled. Mine used to talk a lot. Then there comes a time (Middle School) they clam up. Just when you REALLY WANT TO KNOW what they're thinking or going through....

CRICKETS.

Nothing.

Does that make you feel better? ;)

I know, I know... seasons, seasons... I'm just left with so little mental energy to put it in perspective. ;P
